Many young artists today go their way through the road of creativity with a blithe disregard to the basics of their craft, turning out the most inane output. At best, they call it conceptual art with the smug feeling that art is what they do. They could benefit from a visit to Mitologias, the joint exhibit by Gabriel Grun and Lorena Guzman. It's remarkable that at a time in which artist experiment with new technologies and materials, a young pair of creators reach back to the late Middle Ages an early Renaissance, but with an utterly contemporary outlook. Their technical prowess is amazing, especially for people their age. I have seen some pretty gruesome stuff, but beautifully presented, in previous shows. Their thechnical mastery is as perfect as ever but this time their attention has turned to mythical beings: Pan, Leda, Diana, Cillarius and Hilonome, a harpy, Narcissus and more. In this instance there is no lack of drama, even gruesomeness, in a couple of works. But, although he hasn't been portrayed, the ruling god here is Eros. It's impossible not to be seduced by the vibrant beauty of Guzman's perfectly crafted, berninian statues nor the passionately brueghelian , impeccably painted hues by Grun. And they sensibly provided a written explanation of each work for, after all, one cannot expect viewers to be versed in mythology. Especially nowadays.
